At the core of our bodies physiological functioning all healthy, living tissues subtly "breathe" with the motion of life - a phenomenon that produces rhythmic impulses that can be palpated by sensitive hands. The presence of these subtle rhythms in the body was discovered by osteopath Dr William Sutherland following the civil war. Dr Sutherland had a remarkable insight while examining a dis-articulated skull. He realized that cranial bones were, in fact, designed to express small degrees of motion. He undertook decades of research during which he demonstrated the existence of this motion and eventually concluded it is essentially produced by the body's inherent life force, which he referred to as the "Breath of Life." Dr Sutherland discovered that the motion of cranial bones is closely connected to subtle movements that involve a network of interrelated tissues and fluids at the core of the body; including
cerebrospinal fluid, the central nervous system, the membranes that surround the central nervous system and the sacrum. For greater details please visit www.craniosacraltherapy.org/CSTA_home.html

    Final Thesis Presentation
Preventing Burnout in the Psychotherapist with the In-Session
    Meditative Technique of Therapeutic Fulcrums

Burnout is defined as a syndrome of physical and emotional exhaustion. Burnout affects work satisfaction and performance, and mental health professionals appear to experience burnout symptoms that may affect personal health. Recent research suggests that meditation as treatment may prevent or lesson burnout symptoms. Meditation practice typically occurs either before or after a psychotherapy session. Therapeutic fulcrums an in-session technique for managing vitality may provide an effective means for preventing burnout in the psychotherapist without the necessity of additional time. The therapeutic fulcrum in-session technique is a visualization that may be utilized by the therapist at the beginning or during a therapy session that may improve therapeutic awareness and presence without interfering with therapeutic process or outcome.©
